You don’t have to wait for the timing to be “perfect”.  There are steps you can take to build the incredible life you’ve always wanted. You just have to start.

6 Ways to Set Yourself Up for an Amazing Year

1. Take the Time To Reflect

With the pressures of work and family, it can hard to squeeze out a moment for yourself, much less deep introspection. However, this is an important step for your own happiness. Take the much-needed time to reflect on what is and what isn’t working in your life. Think about all the different aspects of your life currently such as career, health, relationships, money, spirituality, and your current happiness level.

During this time, start to think about the things that bring you true joy and pleasure in your life. These are your musts. What would a perfect day look like for you? Whatever it is: walking in nature, having a cup of coffee, spending time with loved ones, start thinking about how you can include these in your daily life and building your day around these musts.

2. Release Your Inner Child

You’re all grown up but you are never too old to play! Have you noticed how often children laugh, run, jump, smile, sing, and cry out with glee? It’s time to start appreciating your body and the amazing things it can do. Let yourself live freely, feeling comfortable in your own skin and expressing your joy aloud.

3. Get Moving

I encourage all my clients to start a yoga practice. Yoga can help you gain flexibility and mobility, as well as benefiting from stillness and reflection. The lessons and benefits from yoga translate on and off the mat. Start sinking into that pose and appreciating the effects of yoga in your life.

Our body doesn't get us into the pose but instead, the poses get us into our body. Get out of your head and into your body. Practicing yoga is one way to enjoy the incredible gift that is the human body.

4. Break Free

Sometimes in order to grow, we need to get out of our comfort zone. You may need to break free of self-destructive habits, end a relationship, or look for a new job. This can be scary! When you’ve relied on certain crutches it can be difficult to let them go, whatever they are.

I know. I was working too hard and partying too hard and battling addiction. Now, it is because of my recovery, and not in spite of it, that I am able to live an amazing life that allows me to thrive and help people just like you. It doesn’t matter where you are in your life journey, it’s never too late to take care of yourself.

Break free of the bad patterns and habits that are making you unhappy. Instead, plan a self-care routine that is specifically designed for you and to build the amazing life you deserve.

5. Unplug

I love technology! But sometimes it hinders connection instead of fostering it. Social media apps can take the place of truly connecting with someone on a deep level. We’re social beings; we all feel the need to be validated, understood, and appreciated. Don’t let your phone, laptop, television, or tablet get in the way of that.

Connect with the people around you by putting down the electronics and spending the time necessary to form real relationships. You will find that new relationships are more meaningful and existing relationships are strengthened when you’re paying less attention to the screen.

6. Let Go of Perfection

Our modern life is obsessed with perfection. Social media makes us think that everyone is living an ideal life without us. This simply isn’t true. There are ups and downs to every life. However, you can build your own wonderful life by letting go of the idea that everything has to be perfect.

Rejoice in the life you live right now. You can work to change your situation while appreciating every breath and step you take. You can live an amazing life too. It doesn’t have to wait until the timing is perfect – it can start right NOW.

They are happy with their partners, physically empowered, content with their lives, and can manage even the most difficult obstacles with grace and ease. You can have all of this, too.
